Dr Alavi is a senior Neurosurgeon experienced in all aspects of cranial and spinal surgery, including neuro-trauma, neuro-oncology, skull base and pituitary surgery. He also has an extensive expertise in treatment of spine disorders (tumour, degenerative, trauma), CSF disorders, peripheral nerve conditions and functional/pain. He has served as Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery Consultant in Australia since 2018 and is the chairman of the neurosurgery and spine surgery group at Brisbane private hospital and a member of the Medical Advisory committee (MAC) at Brisbane Private Hospital and Hobart Private Hospital.
He began neurosurgery training in the UK in 2007 and worked at several leading hospitals in Cambridge, Birmingham and Nottingham. He then commenced World Federation of Neurosurgical Societies (WFNS) accredited skull base and neuro-oncology fellowship at International Neuroscience Institute (INI) in Hannover, Germany. Additionally, as a RCS senior clinical fellow, he undertook studies in skull base and pituitary surgery in Leeds, UK. He also gained fellowship in complex spinal surgery at the world-renowned Queens Medical Centre, Nottingham, UK. He is a Fellow of the Royal College of Surgeons, England, and the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons.
He maintains affiliation with universities in the UK in regard to his academic research interests in neurosurgery and has been widely published in peer reviewed journals.
